Invite clients
Send your clients an invitation link to register via the TachoEU portal to inform them about the possibility of reading out with you. It's all automatic from there!
Registering clients
Your client will receive an email with the registration link and the steps needed to use the offer, e.g. installing the TachoAPP (this is needed to connect to your TachoKEY).
Receiving your commission
As soon as a user registers on the portal via the invitation link you sent, this can be assigned to your account and you receive your commission - congratulations!
How does it work from there?
Install the app (optional)
You can also download the TachoAPP yourself, e.g. for clients who come for a readout but haven't yet installed the app. The app can also be installed on multiple devices (free of charge).

Give the download key to your clients
Give your TachoKEY to clients who come to read it out. They will then insert the TachoKEY into their tachographs and connect the download key to their own TachoAPP (used to assign the client data to the client account).
Transfer data securely
By entering their email address in the app, your clients identify themselves and the encrypted download of the tachograph and driver card data will then begin automatically.
Client access to data
Using the TachoEU portal, your clients can access their own downloaded data, which has been securely transferred to the data centre in Germany. FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
An account in the online portal is required to send the invitation links and thus receive commission. There is no other way to assign the commission.
No, the TachoKEY can be used for any number of clients. Your clients only need to connect their TachoAPP to the TachoKEY once. On recurring visits, the devices will then recognise each other automatically.
Yes, of course. The data transfer is encrypted our the secure data centre in Germany. It is also not possible to tamper with the TachoKEY, as your clients identify themselves by entering their e-mail address and thus the data is assigned to the correct account. It is also not possible to access to data from previous readout processes.
The deadline is 21 August 2023. From this date onwards, according to the Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1228 (based on the EU Regulation No. 165/2014), an intelligent tachograph version 2 (Gen2V2) must be installed in newly registered commercial vehicles weighing 3.5 t and over. Some manufacturers have already had approval for the new tachographs since June 2023, so it is quite possible that V2 smart tachographs have already been installed in newly registered vehicles before the deadline.
It depends on how the vehicles are being used. By 31 December 2024, all vehicles > 3.5 t with analogue or digital tachographs in cross-border traffic must be converted to Version 2 smart tachographs. Commercial vehicles over 3.5 t with Version 1 smart tachographs have an deadline to convert by 21 August 2025.
Note: Commercial vehicles between 2.5 and 3.5 t in cross-border traffic are also subject to mandatory tachographs from 1 July 2026 and must have Version 2 smart tachographs.
Yes, existing readout hardware will no longer work with the new devices. Due to new encryption protocols and other technical changes, existing download keys and other readout hardware cannot read out the intelligent Version 2 tachographs.
Active termination is not required. If data from the tachograph or driver card is uploaded to the portal, the current month and the following 2 months are chargeable (due to data retention obligations). You can find the monthly costs in the price table above. If no more data is transferred to the portal after this period, there will be no further costs.
